Les Nuits Parisiennes
One’s own sexual energy is the driving force connecting one to their absolute soul. It is the greatest of all illumnation in the cosmos, grasping tightly to the ingenious blueprint of both the conscious and subconscious.
The second chakra is the base for all creative forms housing sexual energy and connecting both the mental and emotional body. Sexual energy is creative energy and this vital force is what we thrive on.
It is not necessarily the beauty of a woman that we admire, but her underlying sexual energy. Althought illusive to the naked eye, this energy oozes and smolders in the space that seperates the observer from her, sometimes rocking back and forth, other times darting all over like fireworks in a heightened frenzy.
The connection of our feminine essence has nothing to do with the mere physical act of sex, but the inner fire that allows passion to burst and overflow into all aspects of our lives. What draws me to photographing, painting and admiring women is their embrace of this immense power of the esoteric and metaphysic.
My goal with this series was to identify this invisible energy for the viewer, by creating an ethereal space between the subject that would emphasize this kinetic phenomenon; exaggerating its pulses, pulls, and gentle whispers, the same way ecstasy flows through the body firing up the cells simultaneously electrically charging and soothing, while liberating the mind, body, and soul.
Les Nuits Parisiennes, is consistent with my love and fascination for the life and world of entertainers: past, present and future, stemming from a love and desire for my own singing, dancing and performing. I am enchanted by the taboo nightlife of the past that would never comply with my everyday lifestyle. I am convinced that no matter how happy and content you are, there is always a slight desire for life’s absenses.
Just as the artistic impressionists, Edgar Degas and Toulouse Lautrec welcomed you into a voyeuristic world of excitement, these images tantalize you with sultry performers and ladies of the night taking you for a ride with their soft curves and intense stares. This series, possesses a nostalgic feeling of the place you have unknowingly longed for: a world full of raw energy that beckons you into the dark, shadows of the night, speak easies, cabarets and dance halls of Paris. With a hint of Golden Age and Belle Epoque, the scantily dressed performers consume and intoxicate you with unattainable fantasies.
Les Nuits Parisiennes couples strong, feminine sexuality with vibrant, energetic, soft movement. It is paired with the song I wrote, titled “Mass Resistance,” a song about the longing and desiring of love from your mate. Utilizing a wide variety of stage-like lighting, long exposure and composition I created the unique aspects of where the Naughty visit, when everyone else is in bed, fast asleep. Time stands still while the rhythm of the night pulses through these images like dripping honey, slow and sensually, giving you an uneasy notion that you could be caught down among the wine and spirits, conducting yourself and enjoying things you shouldn’t be.
